Last summer thanks to funding from Library and Archives Canada’s Documentary Heritage Communities Program the BC Forest Discovery Centre was able to tackle a project that had long been a priority but the museum lacked the hardware to complete it. This was to scan and make available digitally our substantial collection of maps, blueprints, and other large-format documents that were previously too physically large to be captured digitally at a high quality. The original goal was to scan and upload an estimated 1,300 documents for conservation purposes. Thanks to the hard work of the student we hired to serve as Digital Archivist, we were able to massively exceed the original estimates and scan 2,190 total large format documents. While we are unable to host all 116Gb of images on our website, we have descriptions including place names or contents of the files available on our website and can provide the full scale images upon request via Dropbox. We invite you to browse this new addition along with the large assortment of great historical photographs available on the photo archive section of our website.
