Dennis Wilson: Logger & Photographer

Dennis’ films on YouTube, showing the Norie Brothers Logging in the early 1960’s.

Following up on last week’s article on the Norie Brothers, author Ken Wilson has provided us with a brief write-up on his father Dennis Wilson.

Besides being a career logger, Dennis was an avid photographer.

Dennis was born in 1929 to Morris and Barbara Wilson on the Kew Farm (Cobble Hill) across from Frank and Fay Norie.

After school, he would ride in some of the logging trucks in the area, and as he got older would often help Henri and Frank Norie run their yarder.

Dennis went to work as Woods Foreman for Phil Whitaker on Saltspring Island, and when Phil moved to Squamish, he accepted the Wood’s Foreman job for Norie Brothers Logging at their Elk Bay operation in 1955.

Dennis purchased an 8 mm film camera the same year, switching to a SLR camera in 1965 when Kodak introduced Super 8 film.

Upon his passing, Dennis’s son Ken inherited his collection of 7,000 slides and numerous reels of film.
